Now, don't get me wrong. The Golden Compass and it's following books were fantastic. I enjoyed the narrative and the characters and the story was something I could see myself seeking more of. However, it's told so slowly, this only added to my reading fueled narcolepsy. There are occasionally huge breaks between things happening, which gets infuriating. Pages and pages of the characters hanging out in a city doing nothing, or chatting about every single child that has gone missing in the entire world gets to be so dull. That's not to say you shouldn't read it. If you're a fan of fantasy and/or steampunk, you should probably give it a try.
To be honest, my sleeping got in the way of much of the reading, and I only got halfway through the second book. But I can definitely see myself coming back to this in a while, once I've had a decent break from it and have time to absorb what actually happened in the text.
