Claire From Outlander is a trustworthy Narrator

B)        The narrator of the story I am reading is a British woman named Claire Randall. During War 

World Two she worked as a nurse with wounded soldiers, serving both at home and in France. She 

has been married for eight years, her husband Frank is a college history professor, and they have no 

children. After the war, Claire and her husband decide to take a second honeymoon in Scotland 

because while on their first honeymoon the war broke out. Also Frank wants do to do some research 

on his ancestors. One day Claire is exploring a rock formation outside of the town that she and her 

husband are staying at, and then all of a sudden she travels back in time to the early 1740s but still in 

Scotland. I know that Claire is trustworthy because she had a normal reaction for a person who 

traveled back in time accidently. She does not have feelings of excitement or happiness; her feelings 

are that of a person who is scared and confused. Along with that she wants to go back to her husband 

and the time period she is from. Somebody would have to be the best liar in the world and go to great 

lengths to make up a story like the one that is being told. Claire is certainly not a Holden Caulfield 

who is the best example of an unreliable narrator. Although there is still much argument/debate on 

this subject today, I would like to say that Holden is a spoiled brat and not some misunderstood hero. 

But the main point is that story that is being told in Outlander is believable and there is no reason to 

doubt what is being said.
