A Pleasant Reading Surprise

Prior to the start of my reading binge, I had certain expectations about what the experience would be like, and they weren’t the most optimistic.  Although I was an avid reader when I was younger, it had been a while since I’d read a book for pleasure, not to mention read one for seven hours a day!  I predicted the binge would be enjoyable for the first hour or so but slowly I would grow restless and tired of reading.  My mind and attention would drift and the only thing keeping me reading would be the extrinsic motivation of the class.

I had enjoyed the first day of binging on TV, but the second two days were not so much fun.  I became uninterested in the plot and my whole self was just done by the beginning of the third day.  I expected to tire of reading even earlier in the binging than I had of TV.  However, this was far from the case.  I was immediately drawn into the text, The Magicians and the first two hours of reading with my group flew by.

Even by the end of the first day, I was still engrossed in the story and invested in the characters and unfolding plot, and this enthusiasm continued into the second day.  Only by the middle of the third day was I becoming tired of my reading binge.  By the end of the third day, I almost finished the book!  Although it is not required, I will probably finish The Magicians- at least the first book of the trilogy- because I enjoyed it so much.
