Dopamine a neurotransmitter that supports the brains reward and pleasure. Over the last week, binging on TV shows Orphan Black and Doll House have consumed a vast amount of my time and energy. While having to be inanimate for long periods of time, I’ve come to a consensus that watching TV for 8 hours a day is quite difficult. So why relate do dopamine? After watching a few episodes, I started developing a relation towards the fictional world that I was observant of. I began establishing a passion for the TV show, because every episode would end in suspense which made me eager to keep watching.
As I’m usually quite an active individual, I’ve noticed a substantial difference in how active I am on binging and non binging days. Part of me feels dreadful because I’m not able to exercise, which i usually use to channel my energy and thoughts to a greater….. After taking time off watching Orphan Black, I’ve realized that it was a show that I quite enjoyed.
My first thoughts coming into this class were, I can choose my own media to Binge on, It will be very easy watching TV but those were just my anticipations. Surprisingly, Its quite the opposite, as its a 4 credit class in such a short time, the class demands heavy course work and a vast amount of things to do in and out of class. Overall, I’ve really enjoyed my first week of the Binge. I’m keen on starting a new part of the Binge (reading) as well working with a new group of people that could share, comment and critique our literary text from various perspectives.
