For 3 weeks in January 2015, a group of 21 students and 2 professors tested various theories about how "bingeing" on multimedia affected our bodies, minds, moods, and appreciation for narrative form. We binged for 24+ hrs of tv series, 20+ hrs of book series, and 16+ hours of video games. Throughout, we tracked the phenomenology of multimedia consumption and the effects of our immersion in fictional worlds. These are some of our reflections.

Nit-picky Inconsistencies
I’m not sure I would say that my interest is lagging completely, but Orphan Black is so over-complicated sometimes that I get irritated. There are points during the show when I am so confused because there are so many characters and names and different plots going on that I lose track sometimes.
For instance, it took me a bit to keep the Neolution/Dyad Institute separate from the Proletheans and I’m still not sure which characters know everything that I know and who is loyal to who. It doesn’t help that I don’t understand everything that’s going on in the science labs. I know basic high school information concerning genetics, but I was never good at things like that so I’m not sure I understand everything going on. This is also irritating because I hate it when shows have flawed science, and if I can’t understand the science they’re using then I have no idea if it’s legitimate or not.
I’ve also noticed a couple inconsistencies throughout the series. The biggest one is the idea that if the clones are genetically identical, then why does Cosima wear glasses, but none of the others do? I keep wondering if it’s because she’s supposed to be a “sciencey” type and so they’re just playing into stereotypes, but it just doesn’t make sense to me, unless she suffered some accident as a child that compromised her eyesight.
I do, however, like how they made one of the clones to be transgender. The makers of the series keep throwing in lots of stuff that rarely gets by in America. Maybe Canada is a magical place where they’re allowed to depict all sorts of people and not get flak for it.
