TV > Reading: Who Would Have Guessed?

My group chose to binge on Philip Pullman's The Golden Compass.

I have to say that I did not enjoy binging on the reading nearly as much as I did on the television binge. While I found the TV binge enjoyable and easy to accomplish, I struggled to put in the required hours when forced to read. I found it harder to absorb into the storyline, and my mind wandered from the task at hand more frequently. I think part of this was because the book took a lot longer to develop plot wise. The television show had action in every episode, and was designed to keep the viewer engaged. I think that the book took longer to develop and thus it was harder for me to really get into. I am definitely not accustomed to reading for long hours at a time and that became very clear as my eyes began to grow weary after about 90 minutes of reading. I think this is a problem my generation struggles with. Although I am not a natural gamer, I am looking forward to participating in the Psychonauts binge.
